AWF catalyses the development of waste management businesses to improve sanitation services in Arba Minch, Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The African Water Facility (AWF) announced on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 that it is providing a €1.2-million grant to the Government of Ethiopia to improve sanitation and faecal waste management in Arba Minch. The project will benefit over 21,000 people who will have access to improved toilet facilities. It will also boost local agriculture through the provision of new and affordable fertiliser.

African Water Facility turns waste management into strategic input for local production value chain in Ethiopia

The African Water Facility (AWF) held a three-day event from September 28 to 30, 2016 to launch the Improved Sanitation Value Chain (ISVC) project, which aims to serve the urban poor in Arba Minch Town, one of the major cities of Southern Ethiopia. The AWF €1.5-million grant to the ISVC project will contribute toimprove sanitation and faecal waste management for more than 21,000 Arba Minch citizens while boosting the local businesses and agricultural production with the provision of eco-friendly and affordable fertilisers.

The African Water Facility Supports Mozambique’s resilience to climate change and reducing vulnerability to floods in Inhambane and Chimoio

The Government of the Republic of Mozambique and the African Water Facility (AWF) has entered into a grant agreement for a feasibility study on Urban Sanitation, Drainage and Solid Waste Management in Chimoio and Inhambane. The grant agreement was signed on 27th January 2017 by the Minister of Economy and Finance Adriano Afonso Maleiane and the Country Manager for the African Development Bank Joseph M. Ribeiro.The project was launched in workshops in Maputo on March 8, in Chimoio on March 9 and another one will be held in Inhambane on March 14.

The African Water Facility Supports Somaliland to Build Resilience to Water Stress and Climate Change

The AWF held on February 21, 2017 a launching ceremony and workshop to officially kick-start the Water Resources Management and Investment Plan project for Somaliland. The AWF has provided a €3-million grant to support this project in the aim of building resilience to climate change and reducing water stress in Somaliland.
