The AWF launched the Sudan a project to support peace-building in the Darfur through improved access to water and sanitation. The AWF offered a €3.3 grant to the Government of Sudan to improve the provision of water and strengthen the equitable management of water resources in the area. The project will contribute to sustainable recovery and lasting peace through ensuring access to water resources to meet all the water related needs of about 750,000 pastoralists, nomadic and settled populations in the Darfur region. It is also expected to promote the return or resettlement of internally displaced persons, and support the recovery of water based livelihoods, bringing a much needed boost to the local economy.
