The African Water Facility (AWF) held a consultation meeting, on 25 April 2022, with its current and prospective Donors to discuss closer engagement and more regular consultation meetings.
The AWF representatives and donors agreed on instituting informal technical meetings twice a year where possible, to update the progress of implementation of its annual work programme, address any constraints being faced, discuss mobilization of resources, and to share knowledge, best practices and investment opportunities for water and sanitation projects. The meetings will allow for a two-way exchange where donors will also share their experiences and ideas to improve performance and alignment.
It was agreed to hold the first such meeting virtually by the end of June 2022, and another meeting physically with the AWFs Governing Council Meeting in November.
The consultation meeting was in response a desire expressed by AWF Donors in January 2022 for a framework that provides more regular dialogue between each other, with incoming donors as well as with the secretariat, including the provision of strategic guidance. In response, the AWF developed a concept note which outlines the modalities for the setting up of the informal meeting.
The representatives from the Austrian Government, Austrian Development Agency, Denmark, the Nordic Development Fund, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID attended this virtual kick off meeting.
