The African Water Facility to hold Annual Governing Council, Donor and Observers Meeting from 3 to 4 November 2022

The African Water Facility (AWF) will hold its annual Governing Council including a Donor and Observers’ meeting from 3 – 4 November 2022 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
On Thursday, 3rd of November ahead of the Governing Council’s meeting, the Facility will meet with donors and partners including Development Finance Institutions, country ministries and foreign affairs, to engage on critical water-related and industry-relevant issues, strengthen partnerships and future support to the African Water Facility.
Following an inaugural meeting in June 2022, the Donor and Observers’ meeting serves as an informal platform for regular exchanges between the Facility and its Donors for stronger interaction.
Commenting on the Governing Council, Donor and Observers’ meeting, Mr Osward Chanda, Director of Water and Sanitation at the African Development Bank said, “In a year of building back better from COVID-19 pandemic and working with our partners to respond to water security issues, climate change and other urgent needs in our world, I am pleased that we can gather and reaffirm the African Water Facility’s commitment to improving sustainable development outcomes in Africa and the world.”
The 2022 Governing Council meeting will convene on Friday, 4th of November to review the implementation status of the recommendations from the 2021 meeting, evaluate the progress of the Facility’s 2022 Work Plan and Budget, consider the proposed operationalization of the Africa Urban Sanitation Investment Fund (AUSIF), and examine the Facility’s proposed 2023 Work Plan and Budget.
The Governing Council decides the general policy and direction of the African Water Facility. It is made up of 13 members appointed by the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), Donors, the African Development Bank, the African Union, and UN-Water/Africa.

The African Water Facility (AWF) was established in 2004 under the initiative of the African Minsters’ Council on Water (AMCOW) to mobilise resources to finance water resources development activities in Africa. The African Water Facility is hosted and managed by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
