A new year, a new look!
The AWF website has undergone a major facelift! This new site is designed to enhance user experience and improve access to information related to grants and projects, as well as to keep you better updated on the latest AWF news and activities.
In addition, we will stay connected with you via Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter… and via this blog! Yes, from now on, the AWF team will regularly blog about water, sanitation and sustainability issues in Africa, and will occasionally have guest bloggers share their perspective on those issues.
We also look forward to launching our first electronic newsletter sometime in the spring of 2014. A simple briefing for your inbox will update you on latest activities, events and other stories from AWF, on new knowledge and results, and on what is coming up in the world of water sector development in Africa. So much has happened in 2013: we have a new website, 9 projects have been approved, new staff have joined our family. Things are moving fast.
And there is more good news at the AWF. We are just weeks away from reaching the €1 billion mark in investment leveraged to support water projects across the continent. This now brings our average leverage ratio to 1:30, a great performance.
Recently, our Liberia project designed to foster innovative sanitation and hygiene services in Monrovia was showcased and rewarded as one of 17 Lighthouse Activities during the Momentum for Change event part of the UN Climate Change Conference in Warsaw, Poland, in the sidelines of COP19. And more to it, this project was designed and is managed by three dedicated Liberian women. The AWF is a very proud supporter of this team.
In 2009 Over 4500 people died in Zimbabwe of a Cholera outbreak due to lack of adequate water supply and sanitation services. With a € 2 million investment, the AWF helped rehabilitate the entire water supply and sanitation network of Chitungwiza. The project was completed earlier this year and has already restored the dignity of over 350,000 people and significantly reduced the spread of water-borne diseases. This shows that small investments can go a long way.
The AWF team is working tirelessly to make a difference in Africa’s water sector and we look forward to engaging with everyone to achieving the objectives of the African Water Vision 2025.
